Atari Super Pack

I'm a time traveller

You may remember that I set myself the challenge of playing/reviewing the mega-giveaway Atari Super Pack. I wanted to relive Christmas 1988, which started with this article (go on, click it). Quite the task with 21 games - that took me months to finish. I loved every second of it; the Super Pack is something else.

Check out each of the games I heroically plodded through and reviewed...

• Arkanoid II - Pure old skool gaming and it is brilliant.
• Beyond The Ice Palace - Blondes really do have more fun!
• Black Lamp - Faster turning would have made this perfect.
• Buggy Boy - Come on, who doesn't LOVE this arcade racer?
• Chopper X - Turn down the volume... and it's still rubbish!
• Eddie Edward's Super Ski - It's fun wearing milk-bottle lenses!
• Ikari Warriors - A classic arcade conversion.
• Marble Madness - Not my cuppa tea and a buggy lame port.
• Quadralien - A great game to dig your heels into this!!
• Ranarama - Gauntlet, for those who enjoy using their brain?
• Return To Genesis - Swoosh, I'm dead! Whoosh, I'm dead!
• Road Wars - There's always one...
• Seconds Out - Then again, make that two!
• Starquake - What a belting ZX Spectrum conversion.
• Summer Olympiad - Good fun but needed a few more events.
• Test Drive - Yeah, it's time for a road trip in my new Corvette.
• Thrust - Come on, this is a beauty. Love it!!
• Thundercats - A bit wooden and far too difficult. Whhhhhhy??
• Wizball - A corker, if you master its massive learning curve!
• Xenon - It's all about level one for me. A great game.
• Zynaps - Thanks to Hewson we ended on a massive high!

Winners and Losers?

That is a tough question, especially looking at this list. There is an insane array of different genres, and not everything will appeal to everyone. If I'm in the mood for a platformer, there is no contest: Beyond the Ice Palace wins hands down. A shooter, then Zynaps. An arcade conversion, easily Ikari Warriors.

This is such a diverse pack, so "up there" are other games like Thrust, Buggy Boy, and Ranarama. However, even at 17 years old, I wouldn't have had the reactions to cope with Return To Genesis lol.

Well, folks, this has been enormous fun over the many months I've spent gaming and writing my boring reviews that nobody reads. Regardless, this pack certainly proves Atari went that extra mile to deliver an exceptional product. What a giveaway, 21 incredible games AND an Organiser too (Woo, fun times).
